Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is an IBCLC?

An IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is a certified expert in lactation who provides guidance and support for breastfeeding and chestfeeding. They are trained to address a wide range of feeding challenges, including difficulties with latch, milk production issues, breast or nipple pain, and feeding multiples or premature infants.

2. How long should I breastfeed my baby?

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months, with continued breastfeeding along with complementary foods for up to 2 years or longer. However, every family is unique, and the duration of breastfeeding is a personal choice. We support you in reaching your goals, whatever they may be.

3. What should I do if I’m struggling with milk supply?

There are several techniques and strategies to help increase milk supply, including frequent nursing, proper latch, breast massage, and staying hydrated. We offer one-on-one support to assess your situation and provide a personalized approach to help you reach an adequate milk supply.

4. How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?

Signs of adequate milk intake include regular wet diapers, weight gain, and satisfied behavior after feeds. In your early days, a lactation consultant can help evaluate feeding patterns and offer guidance on ensuring your baby gets enough milk.

5. Can I continue breastfeeding if I go back to work?

Yes! Many mothers continue breastfeeding while working by pumping and storing milk. We can provide advice on establishing a pumping schedule, milk storage, and working with your employer to find time for pumping during the day.

6. What if breastfeeding is painful?

Breastfeeding should not be painful. Pain is often a sign of an issue such as a poor latch, tongue-tie, or engorgement. A lactation consultant can assess and provide solutions to improve your comfort and ensure a positive breastfeeding experience.

7. What foods should I eat while breastfeeding?

A balanced, nutritious diet supports both you and your baby. Focus on whole foods, and stay hydrated. Some babies may react to certain foods, so if you notice issues, our team can help assess possible sensitivities or allergens
