Services for BCBS Families

At Unfiltered Lactation, we want you to fully understand how your coverage works. Unfortunately, Blue Cross Blue Shield does not allow IBCLCs to submit claims directly unless they also hold a medical license. This means: If your pediatrician’s office has a lactation consultant on their team, you may be able to receive care without paying out-of-pocket. If you see an independent IBCLC (like Unfiltered Lactation), you will need to pay out-of-pocket first and then submit for reimbursement. To make this as simple as possible, we provide you with everything you need to submit your claim. Just follow the steps below.

1️⃣ Pay at Your Visit
All BCBS patients pay out-of-pocket at the time of service:

• Initial in-person consult: $250

• Follow-up in-person consult: $200

• Initial virtual consult: $200

• Follow-up virtual consult: $175
  Travel fee applies if outside a 30-minute radius from 22556.

2️⃣ Submit Your Superbill for Reimbursement

• After your visit, you’ll get a superbill with all the info BCBS needs.

• Use the claim number on your insurance card to submit it.

• The superbill includes: provider info, service codes, date of service, and amount paid.

• BCBS will reimburse partially or fully, depending on your plan.

3️⃣ Wait for Reimbursement

• Once submitted, BCBS will process your claim.

• Reimbursement timelines vary by plan.
